About Us

Kischea Talbert, RN, BSN

Kischea Talbert, RN, BSN, is the founding creator of BEA at Peace Abortion Doulas. A devoted partner of reproductive  healthcare, she has worked diligently for years to ensure safe and legal abortion access. In 2022, Kischea developed   the   Patient   Navigator   program   at  one of Planned Parenthood Federation of America's most vital affiliates   after   the   US   Supreme   Court   ruled   in favor to overturn Roe v Wade. As one of few Patient Navigators in the entire region, Kischea partnered with community members, other planned parenthood affiliates, and independent abortion providers to help pregnant people seeking abortion health care in and out of politically, and now criminally, perilous states.

Recognizing that the uncertainty of having access to crucial reproductive rights in Arizona would increase high levels of emotional and physical trauma to a community already grieved by systemic failure and inequity, Kischea innovatively rallied a team to develop the volunteer Abortion Doula Program at Planned Parenthood Arizona (PPAZ) after being inspired by a similar program with Planned Parenthood Global in Mexico. The presence of doulas in the organization's health centers not only improved positive patient outcomes, but also supported the clinical staff. The success of the program inspired the affiliate to train more volunteers and expand the services to which they offered doulas for. This success got the attention of other abortion community leaders who became interested in developing similar programs in their own clinics. Kischea and the volunteer doulas also began coordinating private donations to assemble “after-care kits” for patients that included fuzzy socks, a warm compress, snacks, and sensory toys to assist them in their post-appointment recovery.

In addition to her work leading the doula program at the Arizona Planned Parenthood affiliate, Kischea helped the organization launch its very own Black Health Equity program. After reviewing data, Kischea became aware that the affiliate only saw a little over 1,900 black, non-Hispanic patients vs the 24,000 patients seen. Because black women have the highest numbers of unintended pregnancies and infant mortality rates, and black communities face multiple barriers to accessing quality affordable healthcare, Kischea recognized that PPAZ had to perpetuate a pro-Black culture to meet the needs of the Black community. Kischea wanted black team members and black patients to feel a sense of belonging and trust in the health centers.
